Mission
To ensure a reliable transmission of electricity, efficient control of power system, transparent administration of the market.

Lietuvos Energija AB is a joint stock company, functioning as the owner of electricity transmission grid (110-330kV), system operator and the market operator:

  • Maintains and develops the transmission system;
  • Ensures a balance between electricity production and consumption as well as electricity transmission from Lithuania’s power plants to its distribution companies;
  • Co-ordinates the operation of Lithuania’s power plants to guarantee reliable electricity supply to consumers. Together with neighbouring power systems, is involved in electricity export, import and transit;
  • Organises trade in electricity.

Lietuvos Energija is one of the constituent parts in the parallely operating power systems of the Baltic States, Russia and Belarus, and manages energy flows vitally important to both industry and households. The mission of the company is reliable and efficient electricity transmission and stability of the power system in Lithuania.

The company owns 222 transformer substations and switchyards, more than 6,000 kilometres of 330kV and 110 kV electric lines, the Kaunas Hydro Power Plant and the Kruonis Pumped Storage Plant.  Both power plants are the main tools for ensuring capacity balances and regulation of regimes.

The company-controlled transmission system is interconnected by four electric lines with Latvia, five with Belarus and three with Russia (the Kaliningrad Region). One of the main objectives of Lietuvos Energija is the integration of Lithuania’s power system into the Western European electricity market along with the development of regional co-operation. Expansion of the transmission grid is planned in the near future by interconnecting it with the Polish electricity system. The Lithuanian-Polish interconnection project is of immense importance for the development of an integrated EU electricity market and for the improvement of the reliability of supply. By utilising the common capabilities of the power systems of the Baltic States, establishment of the Common Baltic Electricity Market needed for successful integration of the Baltic States into the electricity markets of Western Europe and the Nordic countries is projected.

In its endeavours to properly and efficiently implement its functions, the company pays a lot of attention to technical and scientific progress, training of specialists and intensively implements scientific and technical innovations in its operations.
