Kaunas HPP
Print

The Kaunas HPP is the biggest power plant in Lithuania using renewable energy resources for power generation. Electricity produced in this power plant accounts for more than 80% of the generated output of this type of energy. Every year the power plant generates about 2% of the total quantity consumed in Lithuania.

The Kaunas HPP is the only power plant in the Lithuanian power system which is capable of solely starting operation after a complete blackout of the power system. It is the most important generation source in the case of a black start or a scheme separation. Despite its rather small capacity, the Kaunas HPP is an exclusive generating source ensuring the reliability of the Lithuanian Power System. Electricity produced in the Kaunas HPP is supplied to the 110 kV network.

The relevant technical status of the Kaunas HPP is maintained during routine maintenance works and overhauls when certain equipment or facilities are rehabilitated or replaced. The National Energy Strategy provides that the Kaunas HPP has to be rehabilitated by 2007.
